Reese and Ryan: Separated by Uranus?

Reese and Ryan

It's official: There is no hope for the rest of us! It is with deep sadness and concern for the present and future state of human relationships that I inform you Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe are separating. {Source} As I previously reported, the dynamic between an Aries (Reese) and a Virgo (Ryan) does not traditionally make for a good romantic match. But with their natal Venuses opposite each other and a few other good aspects, Reese and Ryan were making a go of a balanced relationship. ~ See Reese Witherspoon's astrological chart (Astrotheme, no birth time) ~ See Ryan Philippe's astrological chart (Astrotheme, no birth time)

But pressures have been mounting for this couple for some time. Back in March, I wrote:

There have been some trouble spots for the marriage lately as Uranus in Pisces recently passed over Reese's Venus and is now headed toward Ryan's Jupiter. In both of them, this could bring urges to make a sudden break, disrupting existing relationships that suddenly feel stifling. {Full story}

At the time, I opined that Uranus would not be a dealbreaker and Reese and Ryan would stick it out at least until late next year. But news of the separation comes as retrograde Uranus is preparing to station and turn direct just over a degree away from Reese's Venus (three degrees from Ryan's Jupiter). In an interesting converse aspect, transiting Venus in Scorpio is also about to cross Reese's natal Uranus.

Meanwhile, Jupiter in Scorpio squares Reese's Saturn, generating further enthusiasm for breaking free of the confines of her life's current structure. Reese may have felt that in order to grow in the long term, she needed to jump ship now. With all that Venus-Uranus energy building in the run-up to the Uranus station, Reese was ready to cut loose. I definitely see her being the initiator of the breakup while Ryan, with Uranus on his Jupiter, just feels like his luck has turned in a way that's out of his control.

As much as I wanted these two to defy the odds for Aries-Virgo couples, ultimately they are operating on two totally different wavelengths... even if they did make beautiful babies together. Hopefully the transformational energy that attends the current pile-up of planets in Scorpio will be cathartic for Reese and Ryan as they prepare to shed their old lives and start over. Seriously, though, what hope is there for the rest of us?!?!

Don't Screw With Reese Witherspoon!

Reese and RyanLast week I wanted to look into the Reese Witherspoon pregnancy rumors but was frustrated that there appeared to be some discrepancy online over her birth data. Now it seems like I may have really dodged a bullet, as Reese is suing Star for falsely reporting that she has a third child on the way. {Source} (Hey, I bought that issue—can I sue for my $3.49 back?)

This litigious outburst should come as no big surprise considering that Reese, with her strong-willed Aries energy, does not mess around. You don't want to screw with a woman who has an almost exact Sun-Mars square in cardinal signs, people, 'cause she will MESS YOU UP. That's right, under her demure Southern-girl countenance, sweet Reese is every bit the ball-buster. See Reese Witherspoon's birth chart (Astrotheme, no birth time)

Although there are various reports floating around the Interwebs that Reese was born in New Orleans; Baton Rouge, LA; or even Nashville, I am indebted to P—— for looking into this and concluding from the best available celebrity research that New Orleans is Reese's correct birthplace. {Source}

Pregnancy rumors are in any case difficult to analyze astrologically without a confirmed birth time, as the houses, which are unique to an individual's chart based on time of birth, hold important information about childbearing potential. P—— was unfortunately unable to verify a 12PM birth time for Reese that appears (without a source) on at least one astrology site, Zodiacal Zephyr. This concerns me, as astrologers sometimes set charts for 12PM as a default when no birth time is available, and it is just possible that someone took the 12PM time from a chart such as this one and posted it as if it were real.

But the 12PM chart actually does seem to fit Reese rather well. It puts Mars on her Ascendant opposing the Capricorn Moon in her 7th house of marriage and partnership. This not only turns her Sun-Mars square, mentioned above, into a T-square with the ambitious Capricorn Moon, which would explain Reese's incredible drive to succeed and dominate in her field. Pluto in Libra, though not as tightly in orb as the Sun-Moon-Mars T-square, completes the powerhouse grand-cross configuration. I can't stress strongly enough that this is not a woman you want to screw with, no matter what time of day she was born.

This birth time would also account for some of the seemingly contradictory aspects of Reese's personality. Suppose the noon chart is accurate: With 29° Gemini rising and Mars in Cancer conjunct the Ascendant, Reese comes off as charming and sparkling, but there's also a directness and aggressiveness to the image she projects. Think perfectly perky yet diehard cutthroat Tracy Flick in Election.

With the nurturing Moon in the 7th house of marriage (again, in this unverified chart) opposing Mars in family-oriented, homebody, Moon-ruled Cancer, Reese is fiercely dedicated to her husband and children, and family life is a huge part of her personality and public image (she seems, laudably, like one of the most hands-on moms in Hollywood). But at the same time, with the Moon in ambitious Capricorn opposing Mars and squaring the Aries Sun, Reese's single-minded career goals define her as well. She worked through both of her pregnancies and, come to think of it, has worked most of her life. That hard-driving Capricorn climb-to-the-top mentality really fits Reese.

Could another pregnancy be in Reese's future? It is possible. Jupiter is stationing in July in trine to Reese's Venus and Ryan's Jupiter, which could bring more blessings into their lives and expand the circle of love in their family. See Ryan Philippe's birth chart (Astrotheme, no birth time)

Jupiter is stationing near Reese's natal Uranus, which, if the noon chart is correct, falls in her 5th house of children and childbirth. This placement could bring an unexpected pregnancy. If not, Reese could also have good luck conceiving her next child around the end of 2007 or beginning of 2008, when Jupiter would be conjuncting her Moon (again, if the noon birth time is correct).

I certainly hope that the Witherspoon-Philippes do increase their ridiculously gorgeous brood, so that perhaps some hope shall remain for humanity's next generation, especially if Deacon and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt decide to breed, I mean, fall in love. If anyone has any information on Reese's or Ryan's time of birth, please be so kind as to share it, that I may better track their procreating potential.

Reese and Ryan on the Rocks?

This is the part of the job I hate, folks. There's some gossip that it is my duty to investigate even as I pray it's not true. I mean, if Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe can't make it work with their blinding collective hotness, successful careers, and endorphin-producingly cute mini-me kids, what hope is there for the rest of us?

But when a publication with the stringent journalistic standards of Life & Style is alleging that their marriage is in trouble, you kinda have to wonder. Plus, in her Oscar acceptance speech, Reese said "thank you to my wonderful husband and my two children ... for loving me so much and supporting me." [Source] Um, so basically she was saying "thanks for appreciating how great I am," which is a step up from full-on Chad Lowe amnesia but not necessarily the nicest compliment you could give your spouse.

An assertive Aries like Reese and a reserved Virgo like Ryan are a bit of an awkward fit -- you see the dynamic in the way he always seems to be walking two paces behind her. [See Reese Witherspoon's astrological chart (Astrotheme, no birth time) | See Ryan Philippe's astrological chart (Astrotheme, no birth time)] Still, I cling to hope that there may be life in the marriage yet, since other recent tabloid reports have the Philispoons trying for baby number three. What is really happening for this couple?

Astrologically, Reese and Ryan have some connections as well as some uphill battles. It's annoying that I don't have birth times for either of them, since I can't even tell what signs either of their Moons are in, but as I stated in my Best Actress predictions, I suspect that Reese has a Capricorn Moon because she is so relentlessly driven and ambitious (her production company is called Type A Productions, hello). I could see quiet Ryan having a Cancer Moon that would be opposite Reese's Capricorn Moon, creating a strong bond of emotional give-and-take between them. And their Venuses oppose each other, with his Jupiter in Pisces conjuncting her Venus -- nice aspects for romantic love. Her Mars in Cancer sextiling his Venus in Virgo brings romantic sparks, and also describes both of their obvious commitment to taking care of family and household -- they appear to be devoted hands-on parents who actually schlep their kids around every day, which is very remarkable to see in Hollywood.

But in some ways, they're kind of like oil and water. There are a couple of inconjunct aspects -- her Sun to his Venus, his Mars to her Jupiter -- that show it can be a struggle for them to see eye to eye. Ryan's Mars in late Virgo forms an out-of-sign T-square with Reese's temperamental Sun-Mars square, so this couple is prone to angry arguments. They have spoken of getting couples counseling, so at least they are aware of and engaging with their issues.

There have been some trouble spots for the marriage lately as Uranus in Pisces recently passed over Reese's Venus and is now headed toward Ryan's Jupiter. In both of them, this could bring urges to make a sudden break, disrupting existing relationships that suddenly feel stifling. Reese is also experiencing a groundshift in her life as Pluto inconjuncts her Saturn, depicting a process of adjustment to her newfound post-Oscar power and creative control.

But for the time being, I don't see these aspects being strong enough to break them up. As far as I can tell without their birth times, Uranus is not a very strong influence in either of their charts. Reese's Pluto-Saturn transit may just make her all the more determined to make her marriage a success. And with Jupiter retrograding back to form a grand trine with Ryan's Jupiter and Saturn, he is likely to find a creative way to express the pressures he's feeling. if Reese and Ryan are to break up, I think it will not be until mid-December 2007, when the Jupiter-Pluto conjunction in late Sagittarius will square Ryan's Mars -- or early April 2008, when Pluto will enter Capricorn and form a T-square with Reese's Sun and Mars. This time period will be one of great transformation for Reese. Whether she and Ryan can make the leap together remains to be seen.

Oscar Predictions I: Best Actress

And so it begins!

The astrological Academy Awards predictions start NOW. Here's how it works: I check out the birth horoscopes of the nominees and predict the winners. If you win your Oscar pool, you are welcome to send me a gift. If you lose, you are welcome to e-mail me scorn and derision. And now, on with the idle speculation!

First category up: Best Actress. Every single one of these women is a fire sign! This is gonna be a grand girlfight, peeps....

Judi Dench
Born: 12/9/34, York, UK; no birth time
See Judi Dench's horoscope (Source: Astrotheme)
Judi Dench was not even in a movie this year, but due to the Academy's bylaws she must receive an annual nomination regardless. I actually kind of like the looks of Venus in Aquarius and Saturn in Leo right on her nodes. Venus (value, worth) in Aquarius (sign of public perception) on the karmic North Node, opposed by Saturn (official recognition) in Leo (creativity, self-expression), could bring Judi the Academy's stamp of approval. And she's having her Jupiter return, which is always a good-luck sign, though it's six degrees off from exact at the time of the Oscars. I dunno, I'm not bowled over. Let's move on to...

Felicity Huffman
Born: 12/9/62, Bedford, NY; no birth time
See Felicity Huffman's horoscope (Source: Astrotheme)
Isn't it interesting that Judi Dench and Felicity Huffman share a birthday, a few decades apart? And she also has Venus-Saturn on her Nodes, though in reverse: Venus is on Felicity's South Node. At first glance I felt like that didn't bode well; nor does Chiron in Aquarius on Felicity's Saturn and, most importantly, transiting Saturn opposing her natal Saturn. This is definitely a momentous time for Felicity, but it seems to pose some challenges for her as well. Then I looked at her chart again and I was like, what was I, blind? [See note] Jupiter is freakin' conjuncting her Venus-Neptune, hello! Such a lucky aspect, especially for someone who so completely disguised her femininity (Venus) for a role; Neptune rules illusion, as well as the glamour of Hollywood. Uranus is on her Jupiter, which could bring sudden and unexpected luck (though it's also on her Chiron, so you never know -- apparently good fortune for Felicity almost always has a downside). Uranus is also associated with unconventional, transgressive behavior, including "alternative" sexuality and gender identity. So its contact with her Jupiter (luck) could describe the great opportunities that Transamerica has brought her. I may be biased because I adore Felicity and her hubby, William H. Macy, since they seem like real people and are definitely real actors. But after re-reviewing her chart, I actually think she will take this one. And I think all that Saturn stuff signifies that she is at a turning point in her life and professional career, having worked so hard to get where she is. Or it just means that once she gets back to the Desperate Housewives set with an Emmy AND an Oscar, those jealous bitches are going to make her life a living hell.

Keira Knightley
Born: 3/22/1983, Teddington, UK; no birth time
See Keira Knightley's horoscope (Source: Astrotheme)
Keira Knightley? Really? Are you kidding me? You're kidding me, right? Okay, well, um, this is weird and scary and doesn't make much sense, but based on her aspects alone, you can't totally count her out. Uranus is squaring her Jupiter, which could describe a surprise upset win. Venus in Aquarius is squaring her natal Venus-Saturn opposition, which could bring validation, and Pluto is conjucting her Neptune, which could represent a massive change in her image as an actress -- say, increased cred and clout. However, for a relatively ingenuey actress like Keira, these aspects could simply describe the nomination itself elevating her status in Hollywood, to the point where she has more options in terms of roles and brings home a bigger paycheck. Lucky Jupiter in Scorpio is inconjunct her Mars in Aries, ruler of her Sun, which means she may need to adjust her M.O. and be less direct, more manipulative, in order to take advantage of her good fortune.

Charlize Theron
Born: 8/7/1975, Benoni, South Africa; no birth time
See Charlize Theron's horoscope (Source: Astrotheme)
Nope. I got nothin' for ya. Sorry, hon. Your fake-baked butt can slink right back down that red carpet. You already have one hit-with-the-ugly-stick-in-the-name-of-art award, so that's something anyway.

Reese Witherspoon
Born: 3/22/1976, New Orleans, LA; no birth time
See Reese Witherspoon's horoscope (Source: Astrotheme)
La Reese is a true Aries, as evidenced by the fact that she called her production company Type A Productions. (This also makes me think she was born later in the day, with a hardworking, driven Capricorn Moon rather than a lackadaisical, off-in-all-directions Sag Moon.) The North Node is transiting Reese's Sun, which could be a sign that she is ready to fulfill some part of her karmic potential. Pluto could be on her Moon, were she born early in the A.M., but again I'm thinking that's unlikely. Uranus is on her Venus, which could bring a major change of fortune either way...either an unexpected windfall or a surprise loss. Given that she is the front-runner, I'm inclined to think any surprises Uranus brings won't be happy ones.

Conclusion: Wonder of wonders, Ms. Witherspoon might just go home empty-handed. I do like Keira Knightley's aspects, but astrological predictions have to be made in context of the rational scope of possibility. For someone at the point in her career that Keira is, those status-changing aspects could simply represent that it's an "honor just to be nominated" -- the Oscar nod itself has sent her Hollywood stock skyrocketing. Now, I like Jupiter on Felicity's Venus-Neptune and Uranus on her Jupiter, especially the way it describes both the upset win and the gender-bending nature of her role. I'm picturing F.Huff at that podium -- and with Pluto conjuncting her Mercury, she might make a fiery political statement in her speech.

UPDATE: This post has been edited from the original post, because I was blind when I originally posted it. No, seriously, I was in the throes of a pre-migraine and was literally blinded. It was actually really freaky. That's what happens when you stare at a monitor for 15 hours a day, I guess. Go figure.
