Can Nicole Richie Make It On Her Own?

I don't know whether to be worried or relieved that Nicole Richie and Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein have once again decided to call it quits. [Source] As I recently discussed, I was glad to see that Nicole seemed happier and more stable once she was back with her beau, but I was a little worried about the dynamic between her, a Virgo for whom stress goes straight to the stomach, and an easy-come-easy-go Aries like Adam:

It does seem that Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein cares for Nicole and has provided a stabilizing influence since they got back together. But I'm really not crazy about the aspects between them; he's an Aries with an Aquarius Moon, which is not really the grounded earth-water type that a Virgo-Cancer Moon like Nicole needs. See Adam Goldstein's birth chart (Exclusive to Media-Darling.com - no birth time) His Sun inconjuncts her Venus, which could mean that she feels she needs to adjust her relationship needs to please him or keep him from losing patience with her. I hope now that they're back together they will be happy and stable together, and that his support will help boost her self-worth... but now that I've looked at his chart, I'm not sure his fiery-hot Aries energy is good for Nicole's delicate Virgo stomach.

Source

Indeed, it sounds like AM bailed in true impulsive-Aries, emotionally-detached-Aquarius-Moon fashion. According to the report, "'Adam basically dumped Nicole,' a source tells Star. 'He didn't want to keep going when it was going nowhere. He wanted out for a couple of weeks.'" Just the fact that he would cut her loose that way shows that Adam wasn't ready or willing to give Nicole the kind of support she needs right now. With his Sun-Venus conjunction in Aries, he's most definitely looking out for number one above all else.

Honestly, I think it's for the best for Nicole that Adam decided to cut his losses rather than continue to stay in the relationship and phone it in. What I'm concerned about is her ability to get through this breakup without coming to pieces. She just admitted to Vanity Fair that their last split triggered her extreme weight loss (though let's face it, her body wasn't exactly healthy the first time they were together). And now, with transiting Jupiter retrograding over her Venus and transiting Venus opposing her Jupiter, Nicole is in an intensely relationship-oriented place and may be extremely needy. She could rush into finding another partner as she did with her disastrous Steve-O fling. Or, with Chiron squaring her Venus, this energy could manifest as more self-harming body image issues. See Nicole Richie's birth chart (Astrotheme, no birth time)

Now is a time when Nicole needs to be nurturing herself and figuring out what she wants to get from relationships. Virgos are so concerned with taking care of other people, they may ignore their own needs. Pluto is squaring her Sun until well into 2008; hence this is a period when she is figuring out who she is, how she seeks to grow, and what she wants out of life. If she takes this breakup as an opportunity to ask herself the right questions, rather than floundering in self-pity and self-destructiveness, the experience could really make her stronger.

But seriously, what are the odds of that happening? Exactly. I say she's down to 80 pounds and dating Pete Doherty by summer.

Nicole and Keith: What Are They Hiding?

Gentle readers, how I love getting your tips and insights. A commenter known only as H. has drawn my attention to a birth chart for Keith Urban that includes a birth time. See Keith Urban's birth chart (Vega Attraction Astrology) Granted, no source is given for said birth time. Then again, my fave celebrity horoscope resource, Astrotheme, doesn't provide sources for its birth data either. So, let's check out this chart and see what it portends for Keith's compatibility with Ms. Nicole Kidman, which is obviously the only capacity in which anyone is at all concerned with him or his horoscope.

With 10° Cancer on the Ascendant, this natal chart places Keith's Moon (emotions) at 19°32" of its own sign, Cancer, a heartbeat away from Nicole's Mercury (communication) at 20°56" Cancer, which makes it easy for her to understand his feelings and relate to him.

Keith's Ascendant squares Nicole's Saturn, which could suggest that he appears to her to be someone she can make an enduring commitment to... but also could suggest her hesitating or doubting herself in his presence.

Keith's Midheaven (representing his career goals) sits on Nicole's Descendant or 7th house cusp (representing her partnerships). Hmm... could this suggest that his career ambitions are part of what draws him toward a relationship with her? Or that his career as a singer fits her image of the type of man she should be with?

Now, their composite chart, which shows the relationship, has a very interesting dynamic. The Sun and Venus are closely conjunct in controlling Virgo in the secretive 12th house. Virgo is also on the Ascendant, and Mercury, Uranus and Pluto are conjunct in the 1st house. All this describes how Nic and Keith are intensely private about the relationship, flying under the radar and tightly controlling the information they let appear to the public. But it also speaks to a level of obsessive-compulsiveness in the relationship dynamic. Mars conjunct Neptune in Scorpio in the composite adds to the secrecy and introduces a hint of possible deception.

Do these aspects simply reflect the fact that they like sneaking around to thwart the press? Or could the Kidman-Urban union be an orchestrated one? Is Nicole out to out-farce TomKat? Is it really all about beating them to the altar? Time will tell....

Nicole Kidman Uses the F Word

Well, it's official. Another couple has chosen to defy all astrological wisdom and give a Gemini-Scorpio marriage a go. When will people learn?

In New York City on Saturday, Nicole Kidman hosted the 30th Anniversary gala for the organization UNIFEM. Her date? Keith Urban, who, she admits, is not just her boyfriend. "He's actually my fiancé," Kidman exclusively told PEOPLE on Monday. "I wouldn't be bringing my boyfriend." [Source]

First of all, how self-centered is that? It's not the prom, lady, it's a friggin' benefit to raise awareness about international women's rights, so it's kinda shallow to be all like, "Keith, you're not coming to the gala until I get a ring!" Secondly, way to wish you were Angelina with the whole U.N. thing. (Although I have to admit, Nicole was adopting multicultural children while Angie was still smearing herself with blood.)

But I digress. Now, I have gone on record saying that, despite some connections between their horoscopes, I feel that Nicole and Keith will not last. I have even gone so far as to suggest that while he is portrayed in the press as the commitment-shy one, her horoscope reveals that Nic is not necessarily the settling-down type. ~ See Nicole Kidman's astrological chart (Astrotheme) In March, I predicted that they would either split up at the end of April or embark on a short-lived marriage:

Uranus' square to Nicole's Moon becomes exact at the end of April. And with stationary Saturn still putting pressure on her Jupiter around this time, the urge to escape could become overpowering. Will Nic pull a Runaway Bride and flee her commitment to Keith? Or will she make like Renee Zellwegger and actually marry him, only to nullify the nuptials four months later -- in August, when Uranus retrogrades over the square to her Moon? Either way, expect to see some major changes in Nicole's emotional life in the coming months. [Source]

So far Nic seems to be right on schedule with her engagement announcement. Impulsive Uranus' square to her spontaneous Sagittarius Moon is still very close to exact. But Venus is on her Saturn, reinforcing the lovely, harmonious Grand Trine between her natal Moon, Venus and Saturn, which makes her feel this is the right time to announce a binding emotional commitment.

With Jupiter, the ruler of her Sagittarius Moon, not far from her Ascendant, she would seem to be feeling optimistic about the future. But Jupiter is retrograde and square to Saturn in Leo on the Midheaven. Perhaps Nicole is having doubts, but feels pressured by the public attention on her to move forward with the relationship for the sake of her career.

Uranus will be messing with Nicole's Moon until early 2007, so it will be most interesting to see how this relationship evolves. I still think that it will not last; if they do get to the altar, it could be a Chad Michael Murray–duration marriage. With Keith's Scorpio Sun in Nicole's 12th house, it would not surprise me to see revelations emerge that he has been keeping secrets from her, possibly involving Scorpio-ruled matters such as...oh, I don't know...sex? See Keith Urban's astrological chart (Astrotheme, no birth time) Nic, honey, those Scorpio men are awfully seductive, but you've gotta watch out for them. And I hope we don't even need to have a conversation about the urgency of drafting a she-nup.

Geri Halliwell Has a Taurus Daughter

Geri Halliwell, the flame-haired Leo known as Ginger Spice, gave birth to a daughter in London at 9pm on Sunday, May 14, 2006. [Source] I know that nobody really cares, but since there is actually a birth time given, I feel I should reward Ms. Spice with some good press. PLUS, saucy Ginger was always my favorite Spice Girl (and that is by no means damning with faint praise, as I loved me some Spice Girls)... AND, I give her mad props for embarking on life as a plucky single mom without resorting to stealing Heather Locklear's husband.

Aaanyhoo. Ginger's bundle of sugar and spice is going to be one spoiled, stubborn little princess, it seems to me. With that Sun-Mercury conjunction in Taurus and Scorpio rising, she is going to challenge her Leo mom in a big way. That Sagittarius Moon shows that she sees Geri as a jet-set type and someone rather malleable. She'll probably figure out the "hold your breath till you turn blue" strategy pretty soon.

In any case, mazel tov, Geri and baby! If a name is released, perhaps I'll bother to run a chart....

Stephen Colbert, Taurus for Truthiness

As I was assembling celebrities for yesterday's birthday post, I saw that Stephen Colbert's chart was not available online and immediately decided that its absense was a disservice to America. Anyone with the cojones to stay in character satirizing the right wing with Bush eight feet to his right must have a pretty badass set of planets. So what is it that makes Colbert such a tireless soldier of truthiness?

See Stephen Colbert's birth chart - Exclusive to Media-Darling.com (sunrise chart, no birth time)

Stephen has Mercury, Mars and Jupiter conjunct in Taurus, with the Sun also in Taurus, which explains his bulldog-like tenacity and obstinacy. Taurus also rules values and morals, and however ironic his onscreen personality may be, he really does have strong and passionate beliefs that, with that Taurus stellium (huddle of planets), he can get pretty darn fired up about.

His Moon in split-personality Gemini, a sign also known for being verbal and witty, is an apt description of the way Stephen Colbert exists as two separate entities: his Colbert Report "character" and his genuine offscreen personality.

Another aspect worth noting in Stephen's natal horoscope is that Venus, ruler of all his Taurus planets, is very closely conjunct the North Node in Cancer. This reinforces the idea of a strong moral fiber, even a sense of being on a noble mission, as the North Node is strongly associated with one's positive karmic growth path. Stephen may be tongue-in-cheek about championing "truthiness," but he is seriously committed to speaking truth to power.

The chart shown here is a sunrise chart giving him a default Taurus Ascendant, but if I were to speculate about Stephen's rising sign, my first guess would be Virgo rising, which would describe his buttoned-up appearance and his acerbic, often critical personality. A Virgo Ascendant would also place his Uranus-Pluto conjunction in the first house, foregrounding in Stephen's personality the aspect that caused a generation to rebel against the status quo. (Uranus and Pluto joined forces in the mid-to-late 1960s to foment protest and progressive changes.) Uranus is opposed by Saturn, contributing to the tendency to challenge authority.

A chart for 2:00 PM EDT would put Uranus directly on his Ascendant and place the Taurus stellium in the 9th house, his Moon in the 10th. I could see the 9th/10th house influence fitting with his strong interest in political, international and religious issues and his delivery of some of the more intellectually sophisticated discourse on TV.

Happy Colberthday, Stephen! Keep on sticking it to The Man!
