Matthew and Penelope: Opposites Attract...Then Argue

I don't know why I was so happy to hear that Matthew McConaughey had parted ways with Penelope Cruz {Source}, considering that, statistically speaking, it's not like it significantly improves my chances of getting on him. But there was something about the two of them together that always bugged me (motivated perhaps, granted, by my statistically unsupported urge to get on him). Turning to their natal charts, I was at first surprised (and annoyed) to see clearly why they were drawn together. But then I looked closer and saw equally clearly what pulled them apart.

Matthew is a Scorpio and Penelope is a Taurus, an opposite-sign pairing that often comes with a magnetically passionate attraction (see also: unapologetically homewrecking soulmates Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott). Penelope's Sun opposes Matthew's Sun-Mercury, enhancing their pull toward each other and fostering a mental connection. Unfortunately, Penelope's birth time isn't available, but if she were born slightly later in the day, she could have a Leo Moon opposing Matthew's Mars, again sparking a powerful attraction. But this aspect would also form a grand cross, or four-way square, with their opposite Suns. All this highly combustible passion between them could lead to some major arguments. Other volatile aspects, like Penelope's Pluto on Matthew's Uranus and her Uranus on his Jupiter, show that they could provoke each other into Category 5 outbursts of temper. Their Venuses are exactly inconjunct each other, revealing that their respective approaches to relationships are fundamentally at odds. With emotionally absorbing Venus in Pisces, Penelope may have wanted an all-consuming union while Matthew, with Venus in Libra, wanted a more noncommittal exchange of give and take.

May was a highly exciting month here at CelebAstroBlogy. Welcome to the many new visitors who have joined our rapidly growing site since the birth of Shiloh Jolie-Pitt. Not even newborn "New Messiah" S.Jo, coming in at #2, could unseat perennial champion J.Lo as May's most-searched-for keyphrase. The folks at those Interwebs just love J.Lo, I tell ya.

But more interesting to me, as regular readers may recall from last month, are the random search strings that one person enters for reasons entirely mystifying to my traffic-report-analyzing mind. Or in some cases, they're not bewildering so much as just funny. Anyway, these are some of the odd, surreal and amusing things people searched for to wind up at CelebAstroBlogy this month:

• sexually obsessed with dann florek - Um. Well. Uh, to each his or her own. I maintain that the man resembles a weasel.

Is Britney Finally Done With Kevin?

This really could be the biggest week in celebrity news ever. Not only were we blessed by the birth of Shiloh Nouvel "New Messiah" Jolie-Pitt (and let us not forget poor, forgotten Kingston Rossdale), but there are also murmurs that the other most eagerly anticipated event in the star stratosphere may come to pass:

"AFTER just 20 stormy months of marriage, Britney Spears has finally had enough of her loser husband Kevin Federline.

For weeks they've been leading separate lives. Now their relationship is so strained that Britney - who is pregnant with their second child - has banished 28-year-old Federline to a self-contained "bachelor" flat in the basement of their Californian mansion....

Ominously, her spokesman refused to deny claims...that she thinks her second marriage is over and wants a divorce....

According to a close friend of Britney, she had hoped that her marriage could survive at least until the birth of their second child in October.

We hear: 'She wanted to wait, but their relationship has become so hostile she just doesn't see how she can make it work.'" {Source}

Lord knows we've been burned before by getting our hopes up that Britney will finally sever the purse strings and G-strings connecting her to Kevin. (Remember when she had his Ferrari repossessed? That was so awesome. And then it was returned with custom "Federline" rims? That was so lame.) But there is a chance this could really be happening.

I almost never look at K-Fed's chart other than in relation to Britney, but it is worth noting that Venus (love, money and possessions) is passing over his Chiron, the planet of wounding, in Taurus, the money sign. His financial and/or relationship situation is causing him some pain. And Jupiter is crossing his Uranus in Scorpio, possibly auguring a reversal of fortune. Meanwhile, Britney has Pluto sextiling its natal position, passing over her Neptune, and squaring her 12th-house Mars. This represents a time of transformation during which she sees the truth about her illusions come to light, and makes profound changes in her sometimes self-destructive M.O. (Mars in the 12th house). Britney could really be taking to heart all the media attention (Neptune) about her being a bad caregiver (Virgo) and undermining her baby's well-being (12th house). Jupiter is retrograde and will make its last conjunction to Kevin's Uranus in mid-September (which could well be around the baby's actual birth date, considering how celebs like to pad their due dates). It's quite possible he could hang on till then in his basement lair, lurking in the corners of Britney's life. But Pluto has a way of unearthing the truth, and it won't be long before our beloved Britney sees the light about her marriage.

Shiloh's Birth Time Controversy

This type of thing is the reason we astrologers drink so heavily. As recent readers know, Celeb AstroBlogy has reported extensively on the birth of the millenium, that of one Miss Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, including an initial interpretation of her horoscope and update with her rising sign. But the brand-new daughter of media-shy Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has a big question mark around her birth data thanks to discrepancies in reporting.

In Touch reports that "Shiloh was born on May 28 at 1:40 a.m. local time (which was May 27 at 8:40 p.m. EST), said the provincial governor," which is consistent with the chart I ran for Shiloh.{Source, PerezHilton.com} But Life & Style asserts that "Angelina Jolie delivered daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt in Swakopmund, Namibia, at 1:43 a.m. on May 27." {Source, PerezHilton.com} While somewhat ambiguous as it does not specify what time zone, this would suggest that Shiloh was born a good 24 hours BEFORE the time for which I ran her chart, give or take three minutes.

This is a tough one, but I am inclined to go with the In Touch data, for a few different reasons:

• The fact that In Touch clarifies the date/time zones it is referring to whereas Life & Style is vague and doesn't draw a distinction between U.S. and Namibia time. Um, there's this new thing called the International Date Line, maybe you've heard of it? Gawd.

• The news broke in the U.S. around 9 P.M. on Saturday night, May 27. I know this, because I was home sitting at my computer on the Saturday night of a holiday weekend. Who would make up that alibi?

• And furthermore, why wait until 9 P.M. U.S. time to announce that info to the world? What motive would they have to embargo the info? It's not like they shot an old man in the face or something.

• In the official announcement, Brad's rep said the baby was born "Saturday night." If the baby had been born at 1:40 AM, while technically she would have been born at night and on Saturday, it seems somewhat disingenuous to call that "Saturday night" rather than "early Saturday morning." Then again, these two did pull the "He's a boy and he's my friend but he's not my boyfriend" routine for many months. But celebrities don't usually fake out the press about their babies' due dates after they give birth.

So, my best guess is that Shiloh is Sunday's child, at least in her African homeland. I'd love to hear more evidence one way or the other; for instance, a report time-stamped before the later birth would, obviously, conclusively prove the earlier time to be true. Please send links!

UPDATE: Shiloh's Rising Sign

After a lovely and rare day offline, I was delighted to return this morning to an outpouring of birth data love in my inbox. A world of thanks go out to the several readers who wrote in or posted comments on the birth time of the newest and most exciting celebrity in the world, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. Thanks to the wisdom of the crowd, I can relay that local papers pegged Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter's time of birth as 1:40 AM local time on Sunday, though the time was reported initially as "Saturday night" here.

While her Moon sign remains the same (Gemini), this new birth time sheds vital light on Shiloh's chart, and provides the crucial detail of a rising sign. Oddly enough, after all the talk of Brangelina's baby as the most hotly anticipated infant since the Christ child, Shiloh's chart actually lives up to the expectations of someone destined to touch the world in karmic ways.

Shiloh has the very last minute of the very last degree of the zodiac, 29°59" Pisces, on her Ascendant (i.e., the point on the horizon at the exact moment she was born). This placement represents the final point in the soul's evolution through the karmic cycle before it begins anew at the zodiac's zero point, 0° Aries. Shiloh appears to be someone who on some level has transcended the bounds of her ego to become one with all of humanity. (Fitting, perhaps, for someone the entire world was obsessed with before she even made her appearance.)

With this ultracompassionate Pisces degree on her Ascendant, Shiloh is born to help the world. Very much like her mother, she may care for the suffering and feel for them as deeply as if they were her own loved ones. Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's Birth Chart

Verily, this is a day of great import in the blogosphere as well as the cosmic sphere, for a blessed child has been born unto the earth. This child shall be called Shiloh (which, like the name of Gwen Stefani's son, Kingston, seems to be some sort of reggae reference), and she is the daughter of the beautiful Angelina Jolie and the comparably beautiful Brad Pitt.

As previously noted, Shiloh's birth time was not given in the official announcement; the time of day was only narrowed down to "night."* Thus, while I typically cast charts for sunrise when a birth time is unknown, I have cast Shiloh's horoscope for 8 P.M. Namibia local time just to get it in the ballpark. If a more specific time of birth is issued, rest assured I will update her chart and reading.* Meanwhile, while the Ascendant and house cusps are not included in the reading, this planetary portrait affords us at least some glimpse of young Shiloh's future potential:

Shiloh and Angelina will be very much alike. Like her mom, Angelina, Shiloh is a Gemini, so it's fitting that she also has the Moon, representing the mother, in Gemini. Shiloh's Sun is close to Angelina, so their personalities will be similar. Depending on her exact time of birth, Shiloh's Moon, which also rules the emotions, could conjunct mental Mercury, meaning that she is likely to make little distinction between her thoughts and her feelings. With Uranus squaring Mercury and quite possibly the Moon, she may be quick to temper and prone to blurt out some harsh words, but with all that changeable Gemini, her bad moods will blow over quickly.

Daddy Brad has Sun in Sagittarius almost exact-exact-exact on Shiloh's Pluto. He represents the transformation principle in her life, with his restless Sagittarian wanderlust. (I hope this doesn't mean he runs out for a pack of cigarettes and never comes back.)
