Lance to Reichen: Ciao, Controlling Capricorn!

As an astrologer, it is both unprofessional and unbecoming of me to crow "Nyah-nyah! Told you so!" when predictable bad news befalls a celebrity. But when the (semi-) celeb in question is my old nemesis Reichen Lehmkuhl, who flatly refused my offer of astrological services even as I warned him about challenging times ahead, only to get dumped by boyfriend Lance Bass, well, all I can say is... Nyah-nyah! Told you so!

As longtime readers will recall, Reichen angrily rebutted my reading of his birth chart, in which I pronounced him a control freak who was out to dominate Lance and possibly use him for publicity. And yet the reported reasons for the breakup sound an awful lot like the controlling Capricorn I described:

"Page Six first reported the troubles Bass and Lehmkuhl were having due to the former Marine's insistence on Bass dropping his straight friends and not having a full-time job. Bass' friends also think Lehmkuhl maneuvered the former *NSYNC-er into coming out at the same time as his book debut, Here's What We'll Say." {Source}

News of the breakup comes as Mars and Jupiter are inconjunct Reichen's natal Saturn (ruler of his Capricorn Sun), nudging him to adjust his military-discipline M.O. and loosen up some of his rigid, tightly structured ways. Meanwhile, Mars and Jupiter are trine Lance's natal Jupiter in passionate Leo. This could really be a time for him to blossom, open up and express himself. Maybe his Goat ex's goading was just what Lance needed to overcome his fears and start enjoying his life as an out and proud gay man. Evidently he already has a new boy-toy lined up. Go, Lance—spread your wings and leave that Type A ass behind!

Update: Reichen Refuses a Birth Chart Reading

Well, gentle readers, I've been holding off on reporting this just in case a certain celebrity had a change of heart, but I think the time has come to accept that, in spite of my valiant effort to establish constructive astrological communication, Reichen Lehmkul thinks I am the scum of the earth (and perhaps the entire solar system). After Reichen, best known as a reality star and Lance Bass's hunky boyfriend, posted a response to my reading of his birth chart on Myspace, I messaged him (ooh, did I tell you guys that CelebAstroBlogy has a Myspace now? Please befriend it!) with what I thought was a kind, respectful offer:

Hi Reichen,
I read your blog entry and I am pretty sure you were referring to my reading of your astrology chart on my celebrity astrology blog. Honestly, I am thrilled and honored that you read it in the first place! But I'm sorry if I offended you or if you feel I jumped to conclusions. I was describing what I observed in the chart but my intention was not to be hurtful. I took another look at your chart and wrote a post conceding some of your points about being good in groups... although I do still think you have some issues with control! That military discipline is instilled pretty deep...

Well, Reichen was none too pleased with this. Here's his response:

Your reading of me was gossipy, attacking, fabricated, and most of all disgusting. You are no better than the tabs who have misrepresented many of us in this recent outing of our private lives. Planting seeds in people's heads of my integrity or worth and that Lance or I should leave one another...stirring reason for rumors of our not being compatible or not getting along. Thanks for all your help. No, you can't have my "birth time".

I replied explaining that hateration was not my intention and that I was only offering astrological perspective on a much-spread rumor about a highly public couple, not "planting seeds" ... but alas, almost two weeks have gone by and Reichen has not responded. The door is always open should he and/or Lance have a change of heart, but for now I am sorry to say that Reichen's Ascendant and Moon sign must remain as much a mystery as the identity of the ancient civilization that really built Egypt's Sphinx. Although I can't say the tone of his message exactly shattered my perception of him as a tightly wound Capricorn....

Still, this is a rite of passage of sorts for CelebAstroBlogy—a blog mitzvah, if you will. Now that a celebrity hates me, I feel I am truly part of The Media!

Reichen Issues a Rebuttal to My Reading!

At last, the day I have long awaited has come, and CelebAstroBlogy has broken through the fourth wall of the blogosphere to collide with the celebrosphere itself! Lance Bass's boyfriend Reichen Lehkmuhl just posted an entry on his Myspace blog "debunking" various "myths" about himself. And I am not even exaggerating when I say he directly responded to one of my posts. Here's what Reichen had to say (emphasis mine):

This one came from an astrologer somewhere on the internet!! Again, far from reality. I definitely like order because of my days in the military and I love being organized. But control freaks that I know like to handle everything on their own. They don't want anyone leading the way to complete something other than themselves. This is so far from my personality. I like to work in teams and I like for everyone on the team to understand each other. I love being in a relationship for the very reason that I don't enjoy being only on my own. I've done it...and I can handle it...but I don't enjoy it as much as being in a relationship where responsibilities are shared. I prefer to do things with a partner and to compromise with them so that, together, we're happy with everything that's happening. Two or more minds are better than one on most any decision. Listening to your partner and making compromises are virtues for successful relationships." {Source}

OMG, he actually read my analysis of his birth chart! Seriously, this is not like when I convinced myself that I could bring Paul McCartney and Olivia Newton-John together through the power of the Internet—this is the real deal. I mean, what other celebrity astrologer could he be referring to? My exact words were:

"With his driven, ambitious Capricorn Sun in a cardinal T-square with its ruler, authoritative Saturn, and power-hungry Pluto, Reichen definitely feels an almost inexorable pull toward success and may well be willing to use force to get it. This T-square definitely suggests the "controlling ways" referred to in the [New York] Post, to put it very mildly. This is my total dream come true! A celebrity, even a self-proclaimed "Z-list" one like Reichen, has actually read my reading of him! And since Reichen took the time to respond, I took another look at his chart and I will concede some of his points. Yes, with that Venus-Jupiter conjunction in social, group-oriented Aquarius (and possibly the Moon there as well, depending on his birth time), Reichen does feel comfortable being part of a team and sharing with a whole group. With Venus in Aquarius, he is very open to people, has a lot of friends and genuinely believes in the equality and brotherhood of all people. "Understanding" is one of the Aquarius keywords, so he is sincere in saying he wants everyone in a group to understand each other.

But at the same time with an Aquarius Venus, he tends to keep all those people at arm's length, observing them with a detached eye almost as if he were performing a sociological experiment. And with that Capricorn love of military-caliber order and discipline, Reichen may, whether he realizes it or not, naturally assume a leadership role in those groups. All his Capricorn-Aquarius emphasis indeed makes him good at compromise, as far as rationalizing, verbalizing and making a logical case for one's emotions is concerned. Yet given his Sun's trine to stubborn Mars in Taurus, I would not be surprised if Reichen's idea of reaching a compromise is getting everyone on board with him getting his way.

In all fairness, though, I cannot do a complete astrological profile without knowing Reichen's exact birth time, especially since his Moon sign is in doubt between Capricorn and Aquarius and could tip the scale toward the military-discipline side or the socially-progressive side of his personality. Plus, he could have a rising sign that really softens his personality, say, a Cancer Ascendant with the Sun in the compromise-oriented 7th house of partnership.

Reichen, if you are reading this, please email me your birth time and I will be happy to give you a complete consultation, which I promise will be supportive and kind. I'm not out to trash anybody, and I genuinely want you and Lance to be happy; I would just like to know that your intentions toward him are all genuine! I'm not saying I'll necessarily take back what I said about you being a control freak, but at least I could offer some suggestions about positive use of your Saturn energy to advance your career and motivate others without trying to forcibly impose your will on them. Just remember, honey, you're not in the military anymore, and sometimes it's healthy to let a little disorder into your life.

Lance and Reichen: Will It Last?

Hardly has Lance Bass's triumphant coming-out story hit newsstands and already there are rumblings of trouble in paradise between him and partner Reichen Lehmkuhl. Leave it to the right-wing New York Post to rain on the gay pride parade! {Source} But still, these rumors warrant thorough astrological investigation. Are Reichen and Lance built to last?

I was unable to find Reichen's natal chart elsewhere online, so I am proud to present to you, dear readers, yet another CelebAstroBlogy birth chart exclusive:

As a Capricorn, Reichen naturally gets along with fellow earth signs like Lance, a Taurus. Depending on his time of birth, Reichen's Moon is either in Capricorn or Aquarius; the former would reinforce their earth-sign bond while the latter would vibe with Lance's Leo Moon to spark an emotional attraction.

Reichen's expansive, emotionally generous Venus-Jupiter conjunction in progressive, unconventional Aquarius describes his out-and-proud attitude about his sexuality, and its square to Lance's security-oriented Taurus Sun suggests the way Reichen's influence has provoked Lance to be more open. But just how sharp was this provocation? Is the Post's source right to claim that "Reichen forced Lance to come out"?

This streak of temper troubles me a bit, as Reichen's Mars is not far from Lance's Sun, and Lance could end up being the object of Reichen's aggression. I also don't like the fact that Reichen's Chiron (wounding) in Aries is on Lance's Mercury-Venus conjunction, casting a shadow of shame and pain on Lance's relationship issues when he already has a strong Chiron theme in his own natal chart.

Considering that Lance is still finding his own way as an out gay man, he might do well to find a partner who is less, ahem, dominant. The potential for an overly controlling dynamic is disturbing to me. That Sun-Saturn-Pluto T-square could impel Reichen to manipulate Lance for his own power-seeking purposes. Reichen has already received tons of publicity from the relationship and might be calculating enough to break Lance's heart as soon as the public learns to pronounce "Lehmkuhl." Lance, hon, if you decide to do a preemptive strike, I support you wholeheartedly. There are plenty more cute boys at the A-house!

Lance Bass Comes Out: Better Late Than Never!

It appears to be Lacking-Gay-Pride Week in Celebrityland. First, my poor, beloved George Michael continued his dangerous downward spiral of low sexual self-esteem. Now, N'Sync's Lance Bass is following in George's closeted-former-teen-idol footsteps and belatedly, sheepishly coming out, in the most knock-me-over-with-a-feather-boa shocking revelation of gayness since Rosie O'Donnell's. {Source} Granted, being hounded by the blogosphere is a lot less embarrassing than being busted for a sex act in a public bathroom like my poor Georgie boy, but still Lance would seem to have been rather agonized over this decision, driven as it was by the taint of rumor.

Mind you, I unequivocally give Lance mad props and much respect for coming out under any circumstances; especially for a Taurus, who fears change and craves material and emotional security, it is a huge feat to risk giving up the validation of fans and family. We Taureans can sometimes be very slow to accept the obvious and adjust accordingly. So I'm not trying to harsh on Lance, really. All I'm saying is that under the surface of this triumphant coming-out story is a fair amount of pain and shame.

Unfortunately there is no birth time on file for Lance. But we can safely say that his Taurus Sun is conjunct Chiron and semisextile Venus. With the Sun-Chiron conjunction, Lance's personality has always been shadowed by this shame. Likewise, with the chafing semisextile aspect between his Sun (ego) and its ruler, Venus (relationships), Lance struggles awkwardly to integrate his love life with his sense of who he is.

I tend not to believe Lance's claim that he is coming out now because he is "liberated and happy"; rather, it seems more likely that he got to a point where he decided he was more shamed by the constant rumors and taunts that he was not fooling anyone, than he would be by coming out. Transiting Saturn is trining his Venus and squaring his Sun, putting pressure on Lance to step up and admit to the world that he is who he is and loves who he loves. (Depending on his birth time, Saturn could also be passing over Lance's Moon, forcing him to take stock of his deepest feelings.)

But that's not to say that this experience is a purely negative one for Lance. There is hope and excitement associated with this leap into a new, unknown phase of his life.
